Master these 3 stories to succeed as a leader.
The Deep Narrative defines you. The Brand Narrative conveys that identity. The Social Narrative is what others say about the first two stories. If any one of these goes awry your business goes with it. Leaders must be servants to their individual and organizational narratives. It’s not enough to focus on results. You must narrate, create and curate the storylines for success.

Steve Donahue offers
individual/group coaching and leadership team trainings on the application of Narrative Intelligence for personal and organizational renaissance.
Humans are social creatures. Our primary identification with a group and the corresponding investment in communal goals is through narrative. That’s why the greatest leaders and the most successful organizations know how to align individual stories with the company’s destiny.
Every leader and every company has three stories:
1. The first story is your Deep Narrative, also know as your “Narrative Identity”. This is what you tell yourself about yourself. It defines who you are, what you do and why you do it. If you want to change anything about yourself or your organization you must change this story.
2. The second story is your Brand Narrative. This is what you tell others about yourself. This story must align with the Deep Narrative. This is not the elevator pitch or a marketing slogan. It’s the authentic experience that others have with you. Think of it as your true culture in action impacting others.
3. The third story is the Social Narrative. This is the story that others tell about you. Your control over this narrative rests primarily in getting the first two just right. But you can also leverage this story when it’s in your favor and take redemptive action when it’s not.
"You don't have a story,
The story has you!"

Take My Advice – I Can’t
Directed by Peter Campbell
15 years into a successful career as a motivational speaker Steve lost touch with his deep narrative. So he embarked on a three year and 72,000 mile journey to find a new story and a reason to tell it. This is where he discovered the power of the story we tell ourselves and how to change that narrative identity.
"Every few years I return to the Sahara with a small group of friends and clients. We fly from Paris to Tamanrasset, an oasis in southern Algeria. For the next 7 days we travel in 4 wheel drive vehicles over some of the most beautiful terrain you will ever see.
We play on 1,000 feet tall dunes and camp under a breathtaking canopy of stars. We visit nomadic tribes and share tea with them. Our head guide, Moulay Harachi, leads us on hikes through the dunes and into spectacular canyons that house 50,000 year-old rock paintings.
Daytime temperatures are surprisingly comfortable during autumn and early winter. But nights are cool and you will need a very warm sleeping bag. Evenings are spent around the campfire where we enjoy delicious meals prepared by our cook, Brahim.
Our Tuareg guides speak Arabic, Tamashek and French. Virginie Biarnay is our tour leader and she is a veteran of numerous desert excursions. She speaks excellent English and happily translates any of your questions, comments or requests to the desert team.
Come join me and get a new story to remember for a lifetime!"
